George Harvel, 74, of Hillsboro, IL passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, at 7:04 p.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital, Hillsboro, IL.  Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral Service will be Friday, June 17, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Rev. Matt Ferguson, Pastor of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, Hillsboro, IL will officiate.  Commital Service and burial will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 12:00 noon at Willowrest Cemetery, Carterville, IL.  Rev. Richard Reed, Pastor of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Carterville, IL will officiate the Commital Service. 

Mr. Harvel was born on November 16, 1941,in Colp, IL to the late Dale and Elizabeth  "Dolly" (Lezu) Harvel.  He was a 1959 graduate of Carterville High School, Carterville, IL.  He worked 45 years in the Coal Industry, retiring as a Federal Mine Inspector.  Mr. Harvel was an Electrician by trade.  During his lifetime, Mr. Harvel lived in Carterville, IL from 1941 to 1959 & 1963 to 1964; he served in the Navy from 1959 to 1962; Sparta, IL in 1965; Hillsboro, IL from 1966 to 1975; Rock Springs, WY from 1975 to 1976; Price UT from 1976 to 1979 moving back to Hillsboro, IL in 1979 till present. He was a member of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, Hillsboro, IL for 34 years.  Mr. Harvel served in the United States Navy from 1959-1962 and was a Jet Mechanic on the USS Shangri-La Aircraft Carrier.  He married Frances I. James on December 30, 1960, in Herrin, IL, and she survives in Hillsboro, IL.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Harvel is survived by three children, Tara (husband Dan) Rozum, Kansas City, MO; Andrew Harvel, Price, UT and Elizabeth "Buffy" (husband Warren) Pierce, Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and three brothers, Jim (wife Barb) Harvel, Johnston City, IL; Dale Dean (wife Betty) Harvel, Seminary, MS and Bruce Harvel, Peculiar, MO.

Mr. Harvel was preceded in death by one brother, Ernie Harvel.

Memorials may be given to Hillsboro Sports Association, Hillsboro Public Library or Montgomery County Cancer Association.
