Ben L. Mansfield, 84, of Collinsville, IL, formerly of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at 12:45 p.m. at Hillsboro Rehab & Health Care Center, Hillsboro, IL.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, IL and on Monday, December 11, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Private graveside funeral services will be held.  Rev. Randy Sands, Pastor of Free Methodist Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate.  Graveside military rites will be accorded.

Mr. Mansfield was born on March 1, 1933, in Taylorville, IL, to the late Truman and Sadie Louise (Stevens) Mansfield.  He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro, IL and was a truck driver for 46 years for BEMAC Transportation, Night Hawk Freight System, General Cable, and National Engine and Crank Shaft companies.  He loved fishing, writing and collecting old cars.  He owned a 1937 Buick, which won numerous awards, while being awarded the Best of Show twice at the Illinois State Fair and gathering the Governor’s Award.  He had several articles published in the Hillsboro Journal newspaper over the years and loved attending Old Settlers in Hillsboro, IL and the Mulligan at Panama, IL.  Mr. Mansfield was a member of Masonic Lodge #712, Collinsville, IL; was a Third Degree Mason at the Blue Lodge Temple; Association Shriners; a member of the Scottish Rite, Belleville, IL; a member of Ainad Shrine, East St. Louis, IL; a member of the American Legion Post 365, Collinsville, IL; a member of the VFW Post 5691, Collinsville, IL; and a member of the Moose Lodge, and a member of Union Local 600, Hillsboro, IL.  He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran, joining at age 17 and serving for two years.  He was awarded the Expert Rifleman Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Medal.

Mr. Mansfield is survived by his cousin, Les (wife Patty) Stevens of Hillsboro, IL and his nephew, Paul (wife Barb) Tomazolli of Hillsboro, IL

Mr. Mansfield was also preceded in death by three brothers, Graydon Mansfield, Rex Mansfield, and Norman Mansfield.

Memorial may be given to the Donor's Choice.
