I send my most sincere sympathies to all the Bass family, but I also say "How lucky you are to have such a great man as your father, grandfather, etc." Art was much beloved by my parents, Bob and Pat Bliss, and also by me and my sister Nancy. We lived not far away from the Bass family on Summer Street. I remember many a raucous dinner at our house with Art and Dorothy, cocoa at the Bass house after Art had pulled us in sleds through the Hillsboro Streets, foot stomping and hand clapping at his musical performances, watching him cut a rug with Dorothy and so many other events that bring a smile to my lips. Art in fact gave me my start in financial services because he bought a whole carton of Girl Scout cookies from me to serve at funerals and that convinced me I could be an entrepreneur! Art was inspiration to all of us as a model of an individual who was perpetually cheerful, optimistic, dedicated to hard work and service, full of fun and full of faith. He was one of a kind!

Wanted to extend our sympathies - Art was a jewel of a man who made a difference in many lives, including ours. His musicianship was a common interest with us, he is in the Heavenly band now. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

My heart goes out to you, Bob, and your entire family, on the passing of your dear father. I remember both of your parents so fondly and always will. They were two wonderful souls. I feel blessed to have known them, no matter how long ago. They impacted so positively, the life of our town and the lives of so many. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Bob and I were in the same graduating class of Hillsboro High School. Growing up, Mr. and Mrs. Bass (no way would I have been allowed to call them Art and Dorothy) were part of the background in the tapestry of our lives, as were so many other parents. Whether I met them at school, at the funeral home, at church, or just passing on the street, they were always friendly and kind. I thought they were talented, smart, funny, caring people and I wished I could have spent more time with them and known them better. Art, like Dorothy, was a shining example of a life well lived. Art was well loved and he will be missed. I feel blessed to have known him. My heartfelt condolences to Bob and the entire Bass family.

When my mother and I moved back to Hillsboro in 1955, Art and Dorothy were among the first to welcome us. I will never forget all the kindnesses that they showed to my family over the years. Art will be missed, as is Dorothy. Marie and I send our condolences.

My family lived across the street from the funeral home and I remember my mother, Julia Myers and my father Russ Myers were friends of Arthur and Dorothy. Now both couples have passed and another friendship just memories. Thank you to the family for handling my parents funerals and all those in the Hillsboro area for many , many years. God Bless you all.

Art was such a wonderful and warm man, a lifelong friend of my mother and stepfather, Gena and Bob Appleton. Art produced a great childhood adventure for me and my brother David when he took us flying in his Piper Cub. And Art taught me how to drive when I was a teen, a few patient lessons. In his later years, we enjoyed so much his musical talents when he played in the hotel lobby. He touched the lives of soooo very many people. Art, and Dottie, were nurturing to children and devoted to their families and their community.
