William "Bill/Weedzy" A. Jones, age 93, of Coffeen, passed away on January 16, 2025, at St. Johns in Springfield.
A Funeral Service for Bill will take place on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen, Illinois beginning at 12:00 PM. A Visitation will start at 11:00 AM prior to the service. Burial will be held in Olive Hill Cemetery in Coffeen, Illinois. Rev. Ryan Thile, Pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Coffeen, Illinois will be officiating.
Bill was born on February 11, 1931, in Coffeen, Illinois to his parents Tom and Lizzie (Coffey) Jones.
He graduated from Coffeen High School with the class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and spent two years in France and Germany. He worked at the Glass Factory in Hillsboro for 42 years, retiring in 1994. Bill played ball with the Coffeen town team and played fast pitch softball for the Coffeen Road Runners for years. He coached Little League and Pony League baseball teams, as well. His love of playing ball extended over to the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Team. Bill enjoyed raccoon hunting, and especially cherished that time together with his son Steve and good friend Russ Simmons. He had a passion for gardening, as well as, raising animals such as hunting dogs, pigeons, quails, rabbits, and even had a pond for fish. Bill had a deep love for music, and he shared that love with his grandchildren who grew to also love the art of music. Bill also attended the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Bill married his High School sweetheart Beverly "Sue" Bess on May 8, 1954, in Taylor Springs, Illinois, and she survives him. Together Bill and Sue had 6 children, Deanne Jones of Hillsboro, IL, Sherrie White of Coffeen, IL, Jeanne (Husband, Mike) Holden of Witt, IL, Julie Jones of Coffeen, IL, Steve (Wife, Jackie) Jones of Taylor Springs, IL, and Lisa (Husband, John) Casterline of Filmore, IL, who all survive them. Bill was blessed with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Matt Jones, as well as his three sisters and four brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Veteran's Memorial in Coffeen, Illinois.
