William Patrick Callahan, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 69. Bill was born on June 26, 1955, in Woburn, Massachusetts, and spent a lifetime enriching the lives of those around him with his unwavering kindness and infectious laugh. In April of 1976, Bill married the love of his life, Sheila Gleichman. Their marriage was a testament to true partnership and love until Sheila's passing. Together, they raised a family that became the center of his world. Bill's legacy of love and laughter will live on through his children: William Callahan IV, Trevor Callahan, Tyler Callahan, Mike Callahan and his wife Katie, Shelby Reece and her husband Joe, and Hayley Siverly and her husband Tim. Grandchildren, Gavin Callahan, Josey Callahan, Karrick Callahan, Riley Callahan, Thomas Callahan, Oliver Reece, August Reece, Archibald Reece, and Rowyn Siverly. Brother, Dennis Callahan. He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila Callahan, his father William Patrick Callahan Jr., his mother Nancy Hewett, his stepmother Helen Callahan, his sister Sharon Callahan, and another sister Marcia Callahan.
Bill spent his career as a dedicated plumber and pipefitter, known for his meticulous work and integrity. His vocation was not just a job, but a means to provide for his family and help others, showcasing his generous and thoughtful nature. He was known to help anyone at the drop of a hat, a trait that left a meaningful and lasting imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
An evening at the local tavern was not uncommon for Bill, where he was always ready with a smile and a hearty laugh. Those who knew Bill will forever miss the sound of his laughter over a shared beer.
A visitation to honor and remember Bill's life will be held at the Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Illinois, on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with burial being held at a later date. As we gather to celebrate Bill's life, we hold onto the memories of his laughter, love, and the countless acts of kindness he extended to family, friends, and the community.
