Verna E. Emerson, 77, of Coffeen, IL, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020 at her residence in Coffeen, IL. Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Emerson was born on February 27, 1943, in McAlester, OK, to the late Fred & Edith Lucille (Marr) Schutte. She is a high school graduate and had attended Lincoln Land Community College. She married Drury Lee Emerson, Sr., in 1961, in Tacoma, Washington and he survives in Coffeen, IL. Mrs. Emerson was a Dietary Cook at Hawthorne Lodge Nursing Home in Hillsboro, IL for 40 years. Mrs. Emerson was a member of Luck n Buck Saddle Club in Hillsboro, IL; attended Grace Fellowship Church in Fillmore, IL; Famous Poet Society, where she had won many awards. She had also raised Arabian horses. She loved horses along with all animals, poetry and being outside. She especially loved spending time with and being involved in her grandchildren’s lives. She had lived in McAlester, OK; Graham, Washington; Raymond, IL; Irving, IL and Coffeen, IL.
Mrs. Emerson is survived by her husband, Drury Lee Emerson, Sr.; three children, Drury L. (wife, Sandra) Emerson, Jr. of Coffeen, IL; Berdina (husband, Terry) Malloy of Coffeen, IL and Jeff Emerson of Hillsboro, IL; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and two brothers, George Schutte and Fred Schutte. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Edith Ann Lynch, whom preceded on August 16, 2001; one brother and one sister.
