Susan Jean Friesland, 75, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 6:10 p.m. at Hillsboro Rehab & Health Care Center in Hillsboro, IL. There will be a memorial gathering Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL., service at 12:00 p.m. with a meal to follow. Rev. Michael Plummer, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL, will officiate. Per her wishes, her body was donated to science.
Mrs. Friesland was born June 22, 1948 in Litchfield, IL to Ross Eugene & Valeria (Plunkett) Hancock, both preceded in death. She was a 1968 Hillsboro High School Graduate and went on to marry Melvin Friesland, July 17, 1971 at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. He survives in Hillsboro, IL. She worked as a waitress and caregiver through the Department of Rehabilitation. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. Susan enjoyed camping, fishing, and mushroom hunting; she was an avid reader, made wedding cakes for many family members, and was well known for her pumpkin roll cake.
Mrs. Friesland is survived by her husband, Melvin Friesland; one son Ross Ray Friesland of Taylor Springs, IL; Siblings, Ronita Rufus, Ronald Hancock, and Ross Dean Hancock. She is preceded by her Parents; Grandson, Ross Friesland; Siblings, Robert E. Hancock Sr., Russell Hancock, Robin (Hancock) Boyd, Ray Hancock; Two Nephews, Floyd Lang & Wyatt Riggs; Niece, Melissa Sue Rufus.
