Shirlee Jean (Poggenpohl) Chapin

Shirlee J. Chapin, 91, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at 10:55 a.m., at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro, IL.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL.  Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro, IL.

Mrs. Chapin was born September 17, 1931, in Mt. Sterling, IL, to the late Jack and Anna (Sneeringer) Poggenpohl.  She was a Graduate of Raymond High School in Raymond, IL and attended Brown’s Business College. She married Earl Baker Chapin, on September 16, 1954, at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Raymond, IL.  He preceded her in death on June 17, 2001.  Mrs. Chapin was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL, where she was also a member of the Alter Society, which is now the Counsel of Catholic Women. She loved animals, was a “Card Shark” and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan.  She was a friend to all and loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Chapin is survived by three children, Michael (wife, Laura) Chapin of Abingdon, IL; Julie (husband, Bruce) Huber of Mt. Zion, IL and Beth (husband, Kirby) Furness of Irving, IL; seven grandchildren, Blake (Cassie) Furness, Shane Chapin, Kristin Hinds, Ashley (Griffin) Gibbs, Jenna (Alex) Holtschulte, Brandon (Britnie) Huber and Morgan (Nic) Burke and twelve great grandchildren, Aiden, Kylee, Emery, Micah, Makinley, Cohen, Ryker, Jake, Layton, Baker, Ari and Kollyns.  Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Chapin was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Mayberry.
