Samuel Joseph Whitlow, 75, of Schram City, IL passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 8:42 a.m., at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro, IL. Visitation will be held Friday, August 13, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. Rev. Roy Eller, Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Litchfield, IL, will officiate. Burial will be in Wares Grove Cemetery in Butler, IL.
Mr. Whitlow was born on October 26, 1945, in Nokomis, IL, to the late John and Agnes (Haggarty) Whitlow. He was a 1963 graduate of Nokomis High School in Nokomis, IL. Mr. Whitlow married Dorothy Garvin and she preceded in death. He then married Barbara Pegg, on April 23, 1999, in Hillsboro, IL and she survives in HIllsboro, IL. Mr. Whitlow had worked as a truck driver for 37 years, for the City of Hillsboro for 19 years, a Coffeen Police Officer for 4 years, Village of Schram City Trustee for 18 years and has had a car detailing business since 2010. He was member of New Hope Baptist Church in Litchfield, IL, Wolf Pack Car Club, Old Settlers Committee, 2000 and Beyond, Hillsboro Easter Egg Hunt, Schram City Fall Festival and always loved playing Santa Clause, for the passed 30 years, during Christmas. Mr. Whitlow had lived in Nokomis, IL; Fillmore, IL and Hillsboro, IL.
Mr. Whitlow is survived by his wife, Barbara Whitlow; one son, Bradley Whitlow of Litchfield, IL; nine step children, Jill Durbin of Coffeen, IL Art Durbin, Rodney Durbin, Scott Durbin, and Joe Durbin all of the Quad Cities, IL; Candy (husband, Randy) Jones Hoppes of Hillsboro, IL; Cathy (husband, Mike) Burke of Hillsboro, IL; Larry (wife, Marie) Simmons of Vandalia, IL, and Kenneth (wife, Connie) Simmons of St. Cloud, FL; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, Guy (wife, Norma) Whitlow of Nokomis, IL and one sister, Grace "Sally" Schuerman of Nokomis, IL. Along with his parents and first wife, Mr. Whitlow was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Whitlow and one sister, Rosemary "Rosie" Hopwood.
