Samuel Thomas "Tom" Harrelson

Samuel Thomas "Tom" Harrelson, 80, of Fort Lewis, WA, passed away on April 19, 2018 at 12:40 p.m. at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, WA.  Graveside memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Van Burensburg, IL.  Rev. Myron Kirk, Pastor of Grace Fellowship Church, Fillmore, IL, will officate.  Military rites will be accorded by VFW Post 1306 and American Legion Post 425.

Mr. Harrelson was born on January 11, 1938 in Tampa, FL to the late Olen Thomas and Irene Lola (Arnold) Harrelson.  He was a high school graduate and retired from the U.S. Army as a Command Sergeant Major after 20 years, serving in Vietnam and earning a Purple Heart.  He married Martha Hiergiest in Germany.  She survives in Hillsboro, IL.  Mr. Harrelson lived in Florida, all over the country with the military and in Fort Lewis, WA during his lifetime.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Harrelson is survived by his son, Bill (wife Celene) Harrelson of Coffeen, IL, a step-granddaughter, Sara Duff, and a step-great-grandson, Caleb Bickford.
