Patricia "Pat" Ellen Frain

Colonel Patricia “Pat” Ellen Frain passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021, at the age of 75. Private services will be held with Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Burial will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL, at a later date.

            Pat was born on June 19, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, to Luke and Ann Frain. Ms. Frain was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL. 

            She started her life of service when she received her nursing degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO. 

Pat joined the United States Air Force on June 13, 1970, where she served for 22 years before retiring on August 31, 1992, as a Full Bird Colonel.  She received numerous awards and medals throughout her life including the Meritorious Service Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Air Force Training Ribbon. Upon retiring from the United States Air Force, Colonel Frain became a Legion of Merit Medal recipient, a medal awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces for meritorious and outstanding service to the United States and one of the highest honors awarded to military personnel.

After retiring from the Air Force, she moved to Sunrise Beach, TX, where she served as Mayor for 13 years. Patricia will always be remembered as a no-nonsense leader, in which she was respected, admired, and loved by many. After retiring from the Mayoral position, she spent the majority of her time sewing and quilting. Additionally, Pat loved golfing, shooting, woodworking, and quilting and embroidering with her sister and countless friends.

            Colonel Patricia Frain was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her are one “favorite sister” Jane (husband Clyde) Chesser, three nieces: Becky Jorn, Brenda (husband Terry) Young, and Julie (husband Bob) Pachesa, and several great nephews and nieces.
