Noah Uhlry Obituary

We’ve lost a truly good and gentle soul. Noah Thomas Uhlry passed away early Sunday morning July 11 at Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs, Illinois, after battling prostate cancer for more than a year. Noah was born in Mt. Olive, Illinois on July 24, 1936 to Lucinda Susan (Osborn) and Thomas David Uhlry. Noah was an auto mechanic and worked for Nelson Auto (Hillsboro), Yokomie (Litchfield), Gorden Oldsmobile (Taylorville) and Whitley Motors (Hillsboro) during his working years.

Noah was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Schram City; a member of the Hillsboro Moose Club since 1993 where he served as a trustee for many years; and a founding member of the Glenn Shoals Lake Association.

Noah married Betty [Elizabeth Ann] Watson on October 14, 1977 and she preceded him in death on June 17, 2003. Noah and Betty enjoyed boating, fishing and family outings at the lake lot on Glen Shoals Lake. During their retirement years, they traveled extensively, including international trips to Poland, Germany, and Mexico, and to many states and sites in the United States.

In addition to boating and fishing, Noah enjoyed woodworking and made lawn ornaments, bowls, and other items for his step children. Noah also enjoyed restoring old cars, camping, and entertaining his step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren, who adored him.

Noah is survived by his sisters Darlene Reike of Butler and Rosemary Dudly of Hillsboro; many nieces and nephews; his 5 step children: Sandy Watson (Terry Cullen) of Burien,WA; Linda (Greg) Bernhardt of Raymond; Dennis (Margaret) Watson, of Normal; Rose (Jim) Schwartzkopf of Newburgh, Indiana; and Kenny Watson (companion Karen White) of Hillsboro. Noah is also survived by his 9 grandchildren: CJ (Madi) Cullen of Seattle, WA; Tony (Ashley) Walch of Raymond; Mandy (Jason) Lemon of Butler; Jennifer (Fernando) Cornejo of Bloomington; Joe (Marit) Watson of O'Fallon; Tom Watson of Peoria; Rachel (Ryan) Payne of Sesser; Kate (Craig) Phifer of NewBurgh, Indiana; Amanda (Jason) Keesling of Robinson; and by his 17 great-grandchildren: Miles Cullen, Ayden Walch, Amelya Walch, Ryder Lemon, Rumer Lemon, Carmen Cornejo, Lauren Cornejo, Kate Cornejo, Helen Watson, Sofia Watson, Lydia Watson, Calvin Phifer, Zoey Phifer, Eric Phifer, Brody Keesling, Madilyn Keesling, and Mila Hamm.

Noah was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, his later companion Sherry Brossard, his brothers Roland Uhlry and Richard Uhlry, his sister Susan Richmond, and his half- brothers James Davidson, John Davidson, and Harold Uhlry, and half-sisters Fern Williams, Edna Hallemen, and Ella Hallemen, and step granddaughter Jenna Hamm.
