Mary Jane (Vandever) Hoff, 96, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 2:45 p.m. at Hillsboro Nursing & Rehab in Hillsboro, IL. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. Rev. Michael Plummer, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL and Rev. Kevin Simberger will officiate. Burial will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
Ms. Hoff was born on September 16, 1926 in Nokomis, IL to the late Lester K. Vandever & Nora (Bolding) Vandever. She was a Hillsboro High School graduate, and also attained her teaching degree. Ms Hoff married Harry “Bud” Hoff on November 28, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, IL; he preceded on October 1, 2013. Ms. Hoff began her married life as a farm wife in Fillmore, IL. Over the years, she worked out of the home, in office jobs, retail, and her favorite, teaching. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church; she was an avid church goer and taught Sunday school. She greatly enjoyed golf, bridge, playing music, knitting, reading and writing. Her published book of poetry, “Bloom Where You Are Planted” is available on Amazon. She had lived in Hillsboro, IL, McAllen, TX, and Calverton, VA.
Ms. Hoff is survived by her sons, Bill (Beverly) Hoff of Florissant, MO and Jim (Donna) Hoff of Rochester, IL; son-in-law, Martin Parr, who was married to her late daughter, Hannah Parr; grandchildren, Heather Parr, Melissa (Michael) Marty, Elaine (Ron) Smith, and Amanda Hoff, Monica Hoff and Jessye Hoff; great-grandchildren, David Cooper, Rachel Cooper, Leah Cooper, Alexa Marty, Olivia Marty, Tyler Smith, Devan Smith, Trenton Hobson and Joshua Hoff; great-great grandchildren, Rowan, Iris Rose, and Emory Rose; nieces, Vicki, Ginger and Jody Dunn; nephews, Dirk Vandever, Richard Vandever, and Bobby Vandever; great nieces and nephew, Jeff Dunn, Jamee (Dwayne) Francisco, and Jennifer Dunn; and a number of fur babies. Ms. Hoff was preceded by her parents, Lester K. Vandever & Nora (Bolding) Vandever; her husband, Harry “Bud” Hoff in October 2013; daughters, Hope Hoff and Hannah (Hoff) Parr, son Thomas H. “Hank” Hoff and his wife Janet Hoff; grandson, Justin Hoff in 2015; and brothers Lester J. “Duck” Vandever Jr. and Ralph Vandever.
