Lyle G. Hanauer, 95, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on December 15, 2019 at 4:19 a.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro, IL. A graveside service with military rites will be held on December 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL. Reverend Michael Lawton, Pastor of United Methodist Church of Hillsboro, IL will officiate.
Mr. Hanauer was born on July 16, 1924 in Springfield, IL to the late Edward and Lora Hanauer. He graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield, IL in 1942. Mr. Hanauer joined the United States Army in March 1943 during WWII, where he was a medic and served in Africa and Italy. He received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Italy during his service. Mr. Hanauer worked for Allis Chalmers and Fiat Allis for over 30 years. Mr. Hanauer served on many boards and did volunteer work for The Senior Center of Taylor Springs, IL; he was a member of the United Methodist Church of Springfield and Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Hanauer enjoyed following sports and camping at the Rainmaker Campground in Litchfield, IL.
Lyle is survived by his wife Frances Porter Hanauer; one daughter Nancy (Chris) Murtaugh; one step-daughter Sandy (Tim) Hand; three grandchildren: Jason Murtaugh, Colin (Ashley) Murtaugh, Alison M. (Sean) LaFortune; three step-grandchildren: Matthew (Kristen) Porter, Michelle (Gene) McConnell, & Zac (Tracy) Hand and ten great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his seven siblings and his wives, Laveta Pinkston Hanauer & Doris Purvis Hanauer.
