Lucy Mae (Crook) Starnes, 85, of Coffeen, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at 6:29 p.m., at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Cremation rites were accorded. A visitation for Roy L. and Lucy M. Starnes will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. A Memorial Service for Roy L. and Lucy M. Starnes will be held Saturday, July 25, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. Military Rites for Roy L. Starnes will be held at graveside. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery in Old Ripley, IL. We will be following COVID-19 CDC Guidelines with the use of masks and social distancing.
Mrs. Starnes was born on December 29, 1934, in Success, AR, to the late Joseph Edward and Georgia Adeline (Briggs) Crook. She was a high school graduate and worked as a sales clerk in retail sales. Mrs. Starnes lived in Pine Island, FL; Punto Gorda, FL; and Coffeen, IL. She married Roy L. Starnes on October 30, 1953, in Greenville, MS. He preceded her on March 27, 2020. Mrs. Starnes loved to do puzzles and spending time with her family. She also loved to take care of everyone.
Mrs. Starnes is survived by four children, Paula (husband Kenneth) Van Hekken of Belding, MI, Kelly Starnes of Coffeen, IL, Dennis (wife Marsha) Starnes of Punta Gorda, FL and Maureen (husband Ron Richards) Starnes of Shelbyville, IN; fourteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Paul Crook of Houston, TX. Along with her husband, Mrs. Starnes was preceded in death by a son, Steve Starnes, three sisters and four brothers.
