Lois Segrest Obituary

Lois Eileen Segrest, age 92, of Hillsboro, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Segrest will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Waveland Cemetery in Hillsboro, Illinois beginning at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Gary Standford will be officiating.

Lois was born the daughter of Lloyd and Juanita (Wall) Royer on March 9, 1933, in Sorento, Illinois.

Lois always had a knack for creativity, starting with her job at the Hillsboro Dress Factory. That passion led into her personal life as she was a talented crocheter that made beautiful pieces such as hats, blankets, and her favorite - doolies. She was a caretaker at heart, whether that meant being there for her family or making them all crocheted baby blankets, she was always there for you. Her nurturing and strong heart brought her to the longtime dedication of being an at-home daycare center for generations of families, spanning over the course of 40 years. Her and her daughter, Eileen, shared the passion together and now both have an extended family of loved ones that will miss Ms. Lois very much.

Ms. Segrest was a regular attendee of the First Baptist Church in Taylor Springs. She had faith in the Lord and was honored to serve Him.

Lois married Rex Segrest on September 1, 1962, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, and he survives her.

Besides her husband Rex, Lois is survived by her daughter, Eileen (husband, Mike) Oakley of Hillsboro; grandchildren Rachel (husband, Jeffrey Jr.) Davis, Samantha (husband, Trevor) Bates, and Chelsea (husband, Jessie) Saathoff; 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Doris (husband, Kenny) Ondrey and Glenda Banchi, both of Taylor Springs, and her brother, Darwin (wife, Gail) Royer of Panama.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rex Edgar Segrest in 1979; brother, Edgar Royer; and brother-in-law Larry Banchi.

Memorials in Ms. Lois Segrest’s honored may be directed towards the Taylor Springs Baptist Church.

Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
