Lilly Marie Saathoff

Lilly Marie Saathoff, 80, of Hillsboro, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at her home, with her loving family by her side. In accordance with her wishes, the family has chosen cremation rites. The family will hold a Celebration of Life, followed by a potluck dinner, for Lilly at 5:00 pm, July 12, 2025, at the Taylor Springs Community Center. Please come casual and hungry.

Born September 4, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, to John and Velma Mae (Sutton) Rouse. She grew up in Hillsboro and attended the local schools. On February 26, 1960, she married Billy Lee Saathoff, Sr., in Springfield Illinois. Together they shared 49 years of marriage before his passing in 2009.

Lilly had the gift of gab. She was known for her 24/7 coffee habit and her generous heart. She loved to feed people. Whether it was a hot meal, baked goods or produce from her garden, she loved sharing with anyone and everyone, especially those in need. No one ever left her house hungry.

She was a great mom, and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were truly the center of her world. Her love for her family and friends was deep and unwavering. She enjoyed spending time shooting the breeze, gambling, shooting trap at the local Sportsman’s Club and attending stock car races. She was always up for a good time and good company.

Preceding Lilly in death are her parents, John & Velma and stepfather Arthur Smith; her husband, Billy; siblings, Charlie, John and Geneva.

Lilly is survived by her children, Kenny (Nancy) Saathoff of Donnellson, Billy (Linda) Saathoff of Hillsboro, Michael (Bobbi) Saathoff of Hillsboro, Jeffrey Saathoff of Hillsboro, and Wendy (Adam) Gregg of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Jesse (Chelsea), Alan (Madi Carter), Bailey (Malorie), Hannah, Sara, Jordan (Riley), Tess, Chase, Fletcher, Brooklinn, Keira and Matthew; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Evelyn (Kessler) Pier of Hillsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials in her honor be made to: Montgomery County Cancer Association, c/o Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, PO Box G, Hillsboro, Illinois 62049.
