Lawrence Monk, 89, of Coffeen, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 8:06 a.m., at his residence. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 2:00 p.m. at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home, Coffeen, IL. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August, 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home, Coffeen, IL. Burial will take place in Green Hill Cemetery, Van Burensburg, IL. Rev. Jeff Hemken, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate.
Mr. Monk was born on June 3, 1931 in Basin, WV to the late Willis H. and Myrtle (Gravely) Monk. He worked at Brach’s Candy in Chicago, IL for 34 years before retiring. Mr. Monk lived in South Suburbs of Chicago, IL; Sauk Village, IL; and Coffeen, IL during his lifetime. He married Anita Lee Childers on February 8, 1958 in Virginia and she preceded him on February 16, 2015. Mr. Monk was a member of East Fork Baptist Church, Coffeen, IL; loved NASCAR racing, to be outdoors and on his lawn mower, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Monk is survived by his two daughters, Benita (husband Wayne) Biella of Crown Point, IN and Debbie (husband Gary) Durbin of Coffeen, IL; five grandchildren, Rob (wife Brianne) Biella, Adam (wife Jessica) Biella, Maegan Durbin, Amber (husband Joe) Battistella, and Sean Durbin (partner Kaitlin); twelve great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank Monk of Delaware.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Monk was preceded by a son, Lawrence Monk, Jr. in 1959; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Monk in infancy in 1972; one sister; and six brothers.
Memorials maybe given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
