Obituary

Larry Dale “Rooter” Root, 77, of Schram City, IL passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 9:36 p.m. at his residence. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. The family has requested that those in attendance dress casually and/or in sports attire. Rev. James Hayes, Pastor of St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, IL.

Mr. Root was born on June 12, 1944 to the late Harley and Virginia (Athley) Root. He was a 1963 graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL. He worked as a Bottle Maker at the Hillsboro Glass Factory and as a Bartender at Drapes Lounge. He married Nora Fenton and they later divorced. Mr. Root lived in the Hillsboro and Schram City area his entire life and was a member of the Glass Blowers Union. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan and loved to gamble.

Mr. Root is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (husband Chad) Butler of Schram City, IL; his grandchildren, Ashley (husband Brandon) Spensberger of Bismarck, MO; Adam (wife Kourtney) Dodds of Schram City, IL; and Austin (wife Madison) Dodds of Hillsboro, IL; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ray and Audrey Blevins; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Root is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
