John Pocklington Obituary

     John Curtis Pocklington, age 68, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at his residence in Butler, Illinois at 10:40 a.m. Mr. Pocklington’s visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, Illinois with a funeral mass immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church will be officiating. Burial will be held at Wares Grove Cemetery in Butler, Illinois.  

     Mr. Pocklington was born on August 2, 1956 in Springfield, Illinois to the late Evan and Helen (Marko) Pocklington. As a lifetime resident of Butler, Illinois, Curt spent many years dedicated to their family farm. After he graduated Hillsboro High School, he pursed a degree at University of Illinois in Agriculture. On December 27, 1986, Curt married Brenda Durbin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Litchfield, Illinois. During their 37 years of marriage, they welcomed their two children, Megan and John. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Blue Grass Drainage District Board, 4-H Board, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, Hillsboro Ski Club, and Knights of Columbus. He loved to farm, attend tractor pulls, water ski, and travel. He was very advanced at skiing, slalom and barefoot skiing were the two he enjoyed most. Curt took a special interest in anything space and airplane related. Most importantly, he loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.

    Curt is survived by his wife, Brenda; two children, Megan (husband) Briar Smith of Coffeen, Illinois and John Pocklington of Butler, Illinois; two grandchildren, Wade Smith and Mackenzie Smith; siblings, Terrence (wife, Pamela) Pocklington of Arizona, Mary Ann (husband, Kenneth) Stolley of Decatur, Illinois; and brother in law, John Richter of Lisle, Illinois. He is preceded by his parents and sister, Sharon Richter.
