John A Petcher, Jr.

John A. Petcher, Jr., 85, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at 9:45 a.m. at his residence.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Burial will take place in Clear Springs Cemetery, Rural Hillsboro, IL.  Rev. Mathew Houser and Rev. James Hayes, Pastor of St. James Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate.

Mr. Petcher was born on July 8, 1934, in Hillsboro, IL to the late John A. and Mildred Ione (Roach) Petcher, Sr.  He was a 1952 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro, IL and worked as a laborer at Eagle-Picher, Hillsboro, IL and at Sherman Williams for 28 years.  He married Hazel Ondrey on October 11, 1953 in Hillsboro, IL and she survives in Hillsboro, IL.  Mr. Petcher enjoyed building go-carts and mini bikes; building and flying model airplanes; and loved to hunt, fish, and shoot.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Petcher is survived by his three children, Theresa A. Garrett of New Mexico, John A. Petcher, III of Hillsboro, IL, and Jim (wife Vicki) Petcher of Hillsboro, IL; 10 grandchildren, Dawn Garrett, Codi Durbin, Jesse Garrett, John Michael Petcher, Andrea Hensley, Jake Petcher, Sam Petcher, J. T. Petcher, James Wade Havera, and Kylie Havera; 11 great-grandchildren, Shelby Garrett, Abby Bourke, Coy Tom Durbin, Kiley Garrett, Pace Garrett, Grady Garrett, Ryan Petcher, Brooklyn Summers, Olivia Hensley, Ethan Hensley, and Renesmay Petcher; a brother, Tom Petcher of Hillsboro, IL; and three sisters, Sharon Seaton of Atwater, IL, Jane Hahnenkamp of Florida, and Susan (husband Gary) Hudelson of Roanoke, VA.

Mr. Petcher was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Oakley Allen Petcher, and two brothers, Ray Michael Petcher and Harry Petcher.
