James "Jim" D. Summers, Sr., 63, of Coffeen, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 4:45 a.m., at his residence. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home, Coffeen, IL. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home, Coffeen, IL. Burial will take place in Olive Hill Cemetery, Coffeen, IL. Chaplain Dan Shreve, Graham Correctional Center, Hillsboro, IL will officiate.
Mr. Summers was born on February 19, 1956, in Somers Point, NJ, to the late Lee M. and Alice M. (Collamer) Summers. He was a 1974 graduate of Absegami High School, Galloway, NJ and was a custodian for 18 years for the Hillsboro School District, Hillsboro, IL and worked for 21 years for Illinois Department of Corrections, Graham Correctional Center, Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Summers lived in New Jersey and Coffeen, IL. He married Donna Jones in September, 1975 and she survives in Coffeen, IL. Mr. Summers was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Coffeen, IL; was a baseball coach, a Coffeen fireman, a basketball coach, a pastor, and helped run the Coffeen Food Pantry, Coffeen, IL. He loved hunting, fishing, kids and grandkids, mushroom hunting, playing Santa's helper, woodworking, camping, and preaching the Word of God.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Summers is survived by his children, Jim (wife Jessica) Summers of Hillsboro, IL, Joe (wife Lindy) Summers of Witt, IL, and Julie (husband Bill) Oller of Walshville, IL; grandchildren, Wyatt Kershaw, Collin Castleman, Landon Summers, Devin Hansel, Zack Hansel, Ellie Mae Summers, Nash Summers, and Easton Summers; brother, Bill (wife Pam) Summers of Litchfield, IL; sister, Marie (husband Jim) Acosta of Hillsboro, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Summers was also preceded in death by a grandson, Paden Debardeleben, and a nephew, Edward Aber.
Memorials may be given to Coffeen Food Pantry, Coffeen, IL.
