James Edward Scobell

James Edward Scobell, 77, of Alton, IL passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 5:44 a.m. at Autumn Meadows of Cahokia, IL. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL. Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church will officiate. Cremation Rites were accorded and Burial will take place at a National Cemetery in Hawaii at a later date.

Mr. Scobell was born on July 6, 1945 to the late James M. Scobell and Mary (Davis) Scobell. He was a 1963 graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Scobell was a United States Navy Veteran; he served for three years in the Vietnam War. He married Janet Aquino on July 9, 1997 in Las Vegas, NV; she survives in Alton, IL. Mr. Scobell was a Boilermaker and was a member of the Boilermakers Union Local #60 in Morton, IL. He loved to watch movies and sports, and also enjoyed woodworking and remodeling homes. Mr. Scobell had lived in Hillsboro, IL; Cottage Hills, IL; Kauai, HI; and Alton, IL during his lifetime.

Along with his wife, Janet Scobell of Alton, IL, Mr. Scobell is survived by his children, Kristina Jacoby-Ottwell of Alton, IL; Jacque Jacoby III of South Carolina; Carl Caberto of Hawaii; Clifford Caberto of Hawaii; and Michael Caberto Jr. of Hawaii; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings, Cindy Hayen of Hillsboro, IL; Cathy (husband, Ken) Gaffney of Litchfield, IL; Judy DevlescHoward of Auburn, IL; Mary Gibson of Rock Island, IL; and Dianne Kaufman of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. Scobell and Mary (Davis) Scobell, and son Eddie Caberto.
