James Clement Howard

James Clement Howard, 87, of Coffeen, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 10:28 a.m. at his daughter’s residence in Coffeen, IL. Burial will be at a later date in Shiloh Cemetery in Coffeen, IL.

James was born March 6, 1937 in Coffeen, IL, to Berthol “Buck” Howard & Iva M. (Snider) Howard both have preceded in death. He graduated from Coffeen High School in Coffeen, IL and then attended SIU in Carbondale, IL. He later spent time in the U.S. Army. He married Mary Wilderman, they later divorced. James then married Rachel (Anderson) Herder on July 27, 1991 in Little Rock, AR, She survives in Coffeen, IL. During his life he worked at Ozark Airlines, then  C.I.P.S. Power station in Coffeen, IL, retiring after 30 + years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge – Mt. Moriah Lodge #51. He and his wife Rachel spent 20 years traveling the country in an RV. Jim loved to fish and be outdoors, he was a great story teller and he loved spending time with family.

Mr. Howard is survived by his wife, Rachel; children, Patricia Howard of Coffeen, IL, Sue (husband Brian) Gray of Coffeen, IL, Allen (wife Cyndy) Howard of Coffeen, IL, Jerry Howard of Missouri, Lisa (husband Joe) McClelland of Waggoner, IL, and Karl (wife Mary) Herder of Fairbury, IL; grandchildren, Jason (wife Aleah) Ginos, Nicole (husband Zach) Lipe, Alexandra Ginos, Shelby Gray, Dylan (wife Kelsey) Gray, Eric Howard, Jessica McClelland, Maggie McClelland, Michael (wife Laura) Herder, and  Amber Herder; great grandchildren; Landon Lipe, Sawyer Lipe, Jase Lipe, Tanner Ginos, Luke Ginos, Charli Ginos, Lakyn Gray, Layni Gray, Livvy Gray, and Amari Thomas; brother, Gerald L. Howard of Coffeen, IL; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by his parents and sister Janet(Howard) Beard.
