Frederick "Gene" E. Govaia, 78, of Hillsboro, IL passed away, on Friday, April 17, 2020, at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro, IL. Cremation rites were accorded. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL. Rev. Randy Sands, Pastor of Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL and Rev. Mark Noyes of Hillsboro, IL, will officiate. Military rites will be accorded immediately after the service, at the church, by Department of Defense and American Legion Post 425. COVID-19 CDC guidelines will be followed.
Mr. Govaia was born June 24, 1941, in Hillsboro, IL, to the late Joel Eugene & Mary L. (Hensen) Govaia. He is a 1959 Graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL and was a Veteran, serving as an MP in the Army. Mr. Govaia married Linda Kershaw, on September 9, 1961, in Hillsboro, IL, She survives in Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Govaia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL. He participated in Rendezvous, where he was known as Grizz, and he enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. He also loved to hunt, fish and be outdoors; and he loved spending time with his grandkids and family.
Mr. Govaia is survived by his wife Linda of Hillsboro, IL; two daughters, Tammy (husband, Randy) Greenwood of Hillsboro, IL and Ranae Snider of Hillsboro, IL; one son, Monte (wife, Robin) Govaia of Litchfield, IL; nine grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and one sister, Jo Anne (husband, Jay) Major of Pawnee, IL, Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Stacey Snider and one sister, Marsha Grabow.
