Frank A. Ceney, 92, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, January 24, at the Hillsboro Area Hospital. He was born in Newark, Ohio on April 30, 1928, the son of Frank and Sophia (Ewald) Ceney. He married Mary E. James on August 28, 1953 at Olney, Illinois and she survives.
Frank graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1946. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army Air Corp and took part in the change over to the U.S. Air Force. Returning home, he graduated with a B.S. in Math from SIU-Carbondale and a M.S. in Physics from Purdue University. Frank taught physics and math for 36 years, retiring from Hillsboro High School in 1991.
After his retirement, Frank did volunteer work for the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service in Idaho and Oregon. This included providing communications in times of forest fires. Frank enjoyed his favorite hobby as a member of the Montgomery County Amateur Radio Club sponsored activities of storm watching and establishing the Montgomery County Civil Defense.
Frank is survived by one daughter, Pam (Scott) Beyer of Bend, Oregon; three sons, Tom (Irmgard) Ceney of St. Louis, MO, David (Nona) Ceney of Pocahontas, IL, and Jim (Amy) Ceney of Colorado Springs, CO; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Florence (Harold) Dibble of Phoenix, AZ.
Preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Helen (Stanley) Lash and Grace Robertson.
The family is aided in their time of sorrow by the Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, the service will be a private family memorial.
