Obituary

Dorothy J. Reitz, 93, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 6:02 a.m., at Montgomery Nursing & Rehab Center in Taylor Springs, IL.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL.  Rev. Michael Plummer, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL, and Dr. Ronald Rhodus will officiate.  Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, IL.

Mrs. Reitz was born on May 21, 1929, in Detroit, MI to the late Max & Anna (Zora) Brandish.  She was raised in Panama, IL, where she had attended Panama School and was a 1946 Graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL.  She was an only child and had always wanted a big family. She married Edward L. Reitz, on August 10, 1946, in Panama, IL.  He preceded in death on July 26, 2010, after almost 64 years of marriage.  After marrying Ed, she got her wish, having four girls and two boys.   Dorothy worked, to help raise six kids, and spent 29 years at Hillsboro Glass Factory in Schram City, IL before retiring.  Dorothy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, IL, where she taught Sunday School and was on the kitchen committee, where she loved helping make the dinner rolls for church functions.  She was a tutor for the literacy program with CEFS and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.  Dorothy loved to craft, sew, crochet, make quilts and cook.  She belonged to several sewing and quilting clubs.  She had made quilts for all six of her children and baby blankets for all seventeen of her grandchildren.  She was a wonderful Grandma and loved to sew and cook for all of her family.  She loved having all of her family around and always had a smile on her face.  She also loved her three dogs, all named Fluffy.  Dorothy had lived in Panama, IL; Sorento, IL and Hillsboro, IL.

Mrs. Reitz is survived by her six children, Jean (husband, Don) Klotz of Edwardsville, IL, Judy (husband, Ron) Guthals of Louisville, KY, Janet (husband, Ernie) White of Litchfield, IL, Vicky (husband Dane) Murphy of Taylor Springs, IL, Larry (wife, Rhonda) Reitz of Litchfield, IL and Mark Reitz of Hillsboro, IL; sixteen grandchildren, Ann (husband, Craig) Kruckeberg, Julie (husband, Richard) Strasen, Brad (wife, Kathy) Klotz, Neil (wife, Jaime) Guthals, Todd (wife, Jessica) White, Dan White, Anthony (wife, Sally) White, Crystal (husband, Michael) Helfers, Tobey (husband, Jeff) Elvers, Taran (husband, Josh) McKey, Megan Murphy, Stephanie (husband, Chad) Mears, Matthew (wife, Tiffany) Reitz, Michael Reitz, Max Reitz & Mitch Reitz; twenty-eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.  Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Reitz was preceded in death by one grandson, Adam Guthals and one great granddaughter, Abbigale Klotz
