Dolores Wankel Hoffman, 94, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 7:37 a.m. at Tremont Ridge Assisted Living, Hillsboro, IL. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, IL. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, IL. Rev. Stefan Munker, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate. Cremation rites were accorded. Burial will take place at Wares Grove Cemetery, rural Butler, IL, at a later date.
Mrs. Hoffman was born on February 16, 1924 in Beardstown, IL to the late Roy and Ethel (Buescher) Utter. She was a 1942 graduate of Beardstown High School, Beardstown, IL, and attended one year of college. She was a housewife and taught school at Beardstown, IL. Mrs. Hoffman lived in Beardstown, IL, Springfield, IL, and Hillsboro, IL during her lifetime. She married Glen Robert Wankel on July 6, 1943 in Charleston, SC and he preceded her on February 9, 1982. She married Robert J. Hoffman on September 22, 1993 in Estes Park, CO and he preceded her on September 22, 2017. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, IL and was a member of the Altar Guild, choir and taught Sunday School at the church. She volunteered with Montgomery County Cancer Association (MCCA) by driving cancer patients; delivered Meals on Wheels; loved to travel; and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was also a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Springfield, IL.
Mrs. Hoffman is survived by three children, Glen Richard (wife Jennifer) Wankel of Hillsboro, IL; Karen (husband Bill) Hamilton of Hillsboro, IL; and Sandra Wankel (husband Jim Richardson) of Ann Arbor, MI; four grandchildren, Rod (wife Tiffany) Wankel; Kyle (husband Mike) Putman; Kacy Hamilton (and James Kollins); and Konnor Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Klarissa Wankel; Gage Putnam; and Kamdyn Putnam; a brother, John Utter of Salina, KS; a sister, Patricia Harris of Ashland, IL; and a sister-in-law, Bettie Utter.
Mrs. Hoffman was also preceded in death by a brother, Don Utter.
