Dennis “Rock” Gene Dal Canton, age 77, of Hillsboro, Illinois passed away on January 2, 2025 at 7:17 p.m. at Hillsboro Health in Hillsboro, Illinois. Visitation for Mr. Dal Canton will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Illinois. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, Illinois will be officiating. Burial will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro, Illinois.
Mr. Dal Canton was born on January 28, 1947 in Hillsboro, Illinois to the late Eugene and Marion (Erp) Dal Canton. On March 11, 1972, Dennis married the love of his life, Sheila (Monte) Dal Canton at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro; they were happily married for 52 years and together they raised their two daughters, Paula and Jody. He lived in Hillsboro his entire life and during that time he started at Hillsboro Glass and pursued his career as a Mail Carrier, starting in November of 1971. He retired from the Coffeen Post Office as a Post Master in 2004. Dennis was very loyal to his community; he was a member of the Jaycee’s, Hillsboro Moose Lodge, K of C in Hillsboro, and St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed playing cards and gambling. He was the Little League baseball coach and also coached his daughter in softball. He was especially fond of watching his grandson play sports.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Sheila; two daughters, Paula Dal Canton of Litchfield, Illinois and Jody (husband, Tony) Buntjer of Loves Park, Illinois; four grandchildren, Nicole Buntjer, Megan Traylor Cantrell, Madison Buntjer, and Ethan Buntjer; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Frank Monte.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hillsboro Ambulance Service, Renovating Central Park Pool or St Agnes Catholic Church masses.
