Dan Keith Saathoff

Dan Keith Saathoff, of Hillsboro, IL, formerly of Panama, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 3:45 a.m., at Hillsboro Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Hillsboro, IL.  Cremation rites were accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at The Abbey on Broad in Hillsboro, IL.

Mr. Saathoff was born on September 25, 1944, in Sorento, IL, to the late Lloyd & Blanche (Hastings) Saathoff.  He is a 1962 Graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL and had served in the U.S. Army for 3 years.  He married Therese Ann Durbin, on July 20, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Litchfield, IL and she survives in Hillsboro, IL.  Mr. Saathoff had worked at the Coffeen Coal Mine and the Albers Coal Mine.  He then worked at Lewis & Clark Marine and Village Apartments in Hillsboro, IL in maintenance.  He was a member of the V.F.W. in Panama, IL, where he was past Commander; He was Road Commissioner in Grisham Township for 12 years.  He loved spending time with his family, ice fishing, hunting (especially bird hunting), sitting on the porch, playing cards, fast cars and making mulligan.  He could fix or build almost anything and was always there when his family needed his help. He took on everything with strength, courage and without complaints, even to the end.

Mr. Saathoff is survived by his wife, Therese Saathoff of Hillsboro, IL; one son, Eric Saathoff (companion, Cathy Ritzel) of St. Jacob, IL;  two daughters, Lori (husband, Todd) Huber of Hillsboro, IL and Jill (husband, Trevis) Brewer of Hillsboro, IL; six grandchildren, Myranda Saathoff, Maggie Huber (fiancé, Dylan Murray), Dane Huber, Ayden Brewer, Peyton Brewer and Grayson Brewer; one great grandchild, Alanna Saathoff and two sisters, Vina Houchlei of Sorento, IL and Gail (husband, Earl) Huston of Hillsboro, IL.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his  stepfather, Harold Spengeman and two sisters, Jeanette McGill & Brenda Kimbro.
