Cheryl Randel Obituary

Cheryl Darlene Randel, 77, of Witt, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 5:13 in the evening, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Montgomery County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs, Illinois. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 1:00 p.m., with a short service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date, in accordance with the family’s wishes.

Born September 26, 1947, to Harold and Margie (Bangert) Hadley, in Hillsboro, Illinois, Cheryl was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, growing up in Witt and graduating from Witt High School in 1965. She later attended IBM school in Missouri. Throughout her life, she held a variety of jobs, ultimately retiring from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

She was known for her kind heart, friendly demeanor, and her charitable spirit. A devoted member of the Witt United Methodist Church, Cheryl was active in missions and often sewed items to support those in need.

Genealogy was one of Cheryl’s great passions, and she loved exploring cemeteries in search of what her grandchildren referred to as “rocks”, otherwise known as tombstones, and family history. A fan of old Westerns, Cheryl especially loved John Wayne, with McLintock! being her favorite movie. She loved to laugh, share stories, and spend as much time as possible with her family. To her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, she was affectionately known as “Grandma Cher,” and she was always ready for an adventure—whether it was a camping trip to the Ozarks, Shelbyville, or the Sportsman Club in Nokomis.

Preceding Cheryl are her parents, Harold and Margie, and her brother, Gene Hadley.

Surviving are her children, Brett (Nicole) Randel of Nokomis, Illinois and Traci Lowe of Springfield, Illinois, Marilyn Thompson; grandchildren, Philip (Cassandra) Lowe, Kristen (Josh) Downs, Christian (Liz) Randel, Leah Green; great grandchildren, Lucas, Asher, Aiden, Violet, Adelaide, Olive and Lane.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to: Witt United Methodist Church, c/o Sewing for Missions 205 North 2nd Street, Witt, Illinois 62094
