Cecil "Rex" White Obituary

Cecil “Rex” White, 96, of Taylor Springs, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at 5:25 a.m., at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation in Taylor Springs, IL. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Rural Coffeen, IL. Rev. Stefan Munker, Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, IL, will officiate.  Burial will be held in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Rural Coffeen, IL, with Military Rites.  Memorials may be made to Camden's Crew.

 Mr. White was born on October 16, 1924 in Coffeen, IL, to the late Aaron & Ethel (Elmore) White. He had attended Coffeen High School in Coffeen, IL.  Mr. White was a Veteran of the United States Army during WWII where he was wounded at Luzon, Philippines. He was a Purple Heart recipient, received two Bronze Stars, two Overseas Bars and a Good Conduct Medal for his services.  He married Dorothy Koonce and they later divorced, he later married Betty Jean Dobrinic, on December 2, 1970 in Coffeen, IL and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2012. Mr. White owned and operated Rex’s Shell Service Station in Hillsboro, IL. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, IL; Hillsboro Masonic Lodge in Hillsboro, IL; V.F.W. Post #1306 in Taylor Springs, IL; Montgomery County Board and a life-time member of American Legion Post #425 in Irving, IL. Mr. White had lived in Coffeen, IL, Hillsboro, IL and Taylor Springs, IL during his lifetime.

Mr. White is survived by his children, Kenneth “Gene” (wife, Susan) White of Hillsboro, IL; Sharon (husband, Chuck) Davis of Chatham, IL; Daryl White of Hillsboro, IL and Clayton (wife, Veronica) White of Casper, WY; step children, David (wife, Kathryn) Dobrinic of Hillsboro, IL and Barbara Jean Funderburk of Springfield, IL; step daughter-in-Law, Barbara Jo Dobrinic of Taylor Springs, IL; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Settles of Irving, IL; Shirley (husband, Herb) Wright of Vandalia, IL and Denver White of South Carolina. Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents Aaron & Ethel (Elmore) White; wife, Betty Jean White; step-son, Michael Dobrinic; as well as three brothers and three sisters.
