Bernetta F Spaeth

Bernetta F. Spaeth, age 84, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 9:24 a.m. at her residence in Hillsboro, Illinois. Graveside Service for Bernetta Spaeth will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in New Baden, Illinois. Deacon Tom Ritzheimer, Deacon of St. George Catholic Church in New, Baden, Illinois will officiate.

On June 29, 1940, Bernetta was born in Breese, Illinois to the late Leo Herman and Henrietta Marie (Hermeling) Kuhl; she was the oldest of thirteen children. She married Charles J. Spaeth on February 4, 1949 and he preceded her in death in August of 1974. Throughout her life, Mrs. Spaeth had resided in New Baden, Illinois and Hillsboro, Illinois. Bernetta was an advocate for supporting the community and provided over 40 years of service to local residents as the owner and operator of Spaeth Market, located in New Baden, Illinois. Mrs. Spaeth was a member of St. George Catholic Church in New Baden, Illinois and served as a Girl Scout leader. She loved trying to win big while playing on the slot machines, bird watching, canning fresh vegetables, and quilting.

Mrs. Spaeth is survived by her four children, Joyce A. Spaeth of New Baden, Illinois, David (companion, Donna Abbott) Spaeth of Hillsboro, Illinois, Ronald (wife, Sheila) Spaeth of Hillsboro, Illinois, and Judy Spaeth of Panama, Illinois; grandchildren, Charles (wife, Kristin) Spaeth and Logan (wife, Haylee) Spaeth; great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Chloe Spaeth; siblings, Ruthann (husband, Charlie) Daiber, Herman “Red” (wife, Renee) Kuhl, Aggie (husband, Gary) Huston, Mary Mullen, Mike, Kuhl, David (wife, Bev) Kuhl, Urban Kuhl, and Eddie (wife, Betty) Kuhl. Aside from Bernetta’s parents and husband, she is preceded by her siblings, Annette Kuhl-Middleton, Alice Campbell, LeRoy Kuhl, and George “Bud” Kuhl; and grandson, Mitchell Abbott.
