Barbara Jean (Holmes) Marfell

Barbara Jean (Holmes) Marfell, 81, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 6:09 p.m. at her residence. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Event Center of Montgomery County in Hillsboro, IL. Cremation rites were accorded and burial will be in Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield, IL.

Ms. Marfell was born on January 28, 1941 in Pana, IL to the late Pat and Dorothy (Briegel) Holmes. She worked as the Director of Business Development at Alton Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau in Alton, IL. She married Allen Edward Marfell on September 15, 1958 in Witt, IL; he preceded on August 12, 2019. She lived in the Hillsboro, IL area during her lifetime. She was a member of Business and Professional Women, the Witt Lioness’, and Republican Women. She was a crafty person and she loved sewing, quilting, and gardening.

Ms. Marfell is survived by her children, Julie Marfell-Konopka of Lexington, KY; Bob Marfell (wife Jeannie) of Springfield, IL; Suzie (husband Craig) Myers of Beardstown, IL; and Michael (wife Kara) Marfell of St. Louis, MO; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and her sister Diana Homes of Hillsboro, IL.

Ms. Marfell is preceded by her parents, her husband, one brother, and son-in-law, Steve Konopka.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
