Warren Glen Whitlock, Jr.

Warren G. Whitlock, Jr. passed away on October 20, 2017, at the age of 73, with his children and pastor present at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY.  A Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Services at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL.  Rev. Michael Lawton, Pastor of United Methodist Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Coffeen, IL.

Warren was born February 8, 1944 in Fayetteville, NC.  Warren never forgot his childhood in Hillsboro, IL and enjoyed sharing stories of spending time on his grandparent’s farm.  His lifelong love of reading began at the local library, where he read every book they had.  He joined drama club in high school, and enjoyed going to plays throughout his life.  He is a graduate of Hillsboro High School in 1962 and MacMurray College in 1966. 

Warren approached everything in life – work, travel, family – with an endless energy and a desire to do well.  He worked in corporate insurance, becoming a branch manager in Buffalo, NY before retirement.  He traveled frequently as part of his job and with his family, wearing them out with his indomitable energy on trips throughout the US, Canada, Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand.  He was in a constant state of motion, wanting to see and do everything.

After retirement, he devoted himself to Christ Church United Methodist Church in Beacon, NY.  He served on the Board of Trustees and was also a committee member on the District and Conference levels.  For many years, he was an active Lay Speaker in the District.

Warren is survived by his sister, Jennifer Whitlock of Hillsboro, IL and his children, Sterling Berry-Whitlock and Cory Berry-Whitlock.  He was preceded by his parents Warren G. Whitlock, Sr. and Jeanne Pearl (Bess) Whitlock.  

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Diane Bigley Literacy Center at United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL or Shiloh Cemetery in Coffeen, IL.
