Henry A Ernst

Henry A. Ernst, 92, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. at his residence.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Rosary will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL.  Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, Coffeen, IL.  Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate.  Military rites will be accorded at graveside.

Mr. Ernst was born on May 29, 1927, in Fillmore Township, Montgomery County, IL to the late Arthur William and Catherine Barbara (Sommer) Ernst.  He owned and operated Travis and Ernst Auto Repair, worked as a repairman at Coffeen Coal Mine, Coffeen, IL for seven years, and worked as a mechanic at Wright’s Ford Garage in Hillsboro, IL.  Mr. Ernst lived in Coffeen, IL and the Hillsboro, IL area during his lifetime.  He married Beverly Marie Sellers on September 26, 1953 in Coffeen, IL and she survives in Hillsboro, IL.  Mr. Ernst was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post 425, Irving, IL; and he was a faithful blood donor.  He served in the U.S. Army in Occupation Germany during the Korean Era.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Ernst is survived by five children, David (wife Belinda) Ernst of Harvel, IL, Steve (wife Ruth) Ernst of Hillsboro, IL, Judy (husband Greg) Shannon of Hillsboro, IL, Dan (wife Lori) Ernst of Rochester, IL, and Phillip Ernst (companion Lora Emerson) of Hillsboro, IL; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Catherine Weitekamp of Raymond, IL.

Mr. Ernst was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Ernst and John Ernst; and a sister, Marie Terneus.
