Edwina Rose (Sexton) Greenwood

Edwina Rose (Sexton) Greenwood, 77, of Coffeen, IL passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017, at 6:41 p.m. at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL.  Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL.  Burial will take place in Green Hill Cemetery, Van Burensburg, IL.  Pastor Ian Caveny, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL; Rev. Mike Skinner and Rev. Landon Sexton will officiate.

Mrs. Greenwood was born on March 18, 1940, in Oneida, TN to the late Manford and Wilda (Baker) Sexton.  A short time later her family moved to Paint Rock, TN.  She was a graduate of Huntsville High School, Huntsville, TN and received her Registered Nurse Degree at Baroness-Erlanger Nursing School, Chattanooga, TN.  During her psychiatric rotation in Washington, D.C. at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, she met Glen Louis Greenwood, of the 3rd US Infantry Division, Old Guard Drill Team.  After a distant courtship, Glen was discharged on May 12, 1960, and upon her graduation from Erlanger, the couple was married on May 14, 1960, at the Erlanger Chapel, Chattanooga, TN.  Mrs. Greenwood worked as a surgical nurse at Hillsboro Hospital, then worked as a visiting nurse with Bond County Public Health.  She was also the Director of Nurses for a nursing home in Greenville prior to her retirement.  Mrs. Greenwood was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL and Red Hat Society.  She also was an avid quilter and loved to crochet, often giving what she made away to friends and family.

Mrs. Greenwood is survived by her husband, one son, Rev. Dr. Glen (wife Laura) Greenwood, II, D Min, Alton, IL; one daughter, Theresa Greenwood (David), Centralia, IL; two granddaughters, Cathryn Greenwood, Alton, IL and Rachel (husband Jack) Legg, Springfield, OH; brothers and sisters, Wanda and Aaron Jones, Hampstead, NC; Naomi Sexton, Scottsburg, IN; Fayrene Terry, Oneida, TN; Dr. Donald Gordon Sexton, Oneida, TN; Annette and Tom Mouat, Beaver Creek, OH; Charles B. Sexton, Attorney at Law, Oneida, TN; Landon and Faye Sexton, Pine Knot, KY; and Judy and Ronald Hutchings, Sparta, TN.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Greenwood was also preceded in death by brothers, Roy D. Sexton and wife Dorothy; Manford E. Sexton, Jr.; Tom Sexton; and sisters, Theora York and husband William; Louise Reed and husband Irel B.; Patricia Sexton; June Sexton; Dorothy Sexton and brother-in-law, William C. Terry, III.

Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, IL or Green Hill Cemetery, Van Burensburg, IL.
