Donald R. Long, 88, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Hillsboro, IL, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL.  Rev. Joy Caschetta, Pastor of United Methodist Church & Chaplain Chris Nilges of Springfield, IL will officiate.  Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, IL.

Mr. Long was born May 1, 1927, in White County, IL, to the late Charles R. & Lola (Meeks) Long.  He is a graduate of Crossville High School in Crossville, IL & received his Bachelor Degree, in Ag Education, from University of Illinois in 1949.  He married Martha White on June 4, 1950 in Salem, IL.  She survives in Springfield, IL.  He worked as an Ag Teacher at Shawneetown, IL then worked for USDA in Soil Conservation in Menard County, Logan County and Montgomery County.  Mr. Long served as a Navy Corpsman in the United States Navy during World War II.  Mr. Long was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL, where he sang in the choir; Kiwanis Club; Coached Little League baseball; Cub Scouts Leader; Member of Farm Bureau; served on the Oak Grove Cemetery Assoc.; delivered Meals on Wheels; was an avid Cubs & Illini Sports Fan and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Mr. Long is survived by three children, Cindy Long Adams (husband Joe Adams) of Chandler, AZ & East Hartford, CT; Mike (wife Glenda) Long of Rochester, IL & Stan (wife Darcy) Long of Bastrop, TX; six grandchildren, Brooke Giannelli, Joe S. Adams, Drew Long, Chuck Long, Kurt Long & Lena Long and eight great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church Heat & Air Conditioning Fund.
