Charles "Charlie" L. Gray, 81, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 10:58 p.m. at HSHS St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL. Funeral Mass services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL. Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL. Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate.
Mr. Gray was born on November 24, 1936, in Hillsboro, IL to the late Lester Isaac and Loretta J. (Helfer) Gray. He was a 1956 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro, IL and worked for Montgomery County Highway Department for seven years, then retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 1993. Mr. Gray lived in the Hillsboro, IL area his entire life. He married Kay Frances Keller on June 3, 1961 in Nokomis, IL and she survives in Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Gray was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to hunt and be outdoors, spoiling his grandchildren and spending time with his family.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife and three children, David Charles (wife Angie) Gray of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Brian Joseph (wife Sue) Gray of Coffeen, IL; and Scott Alan Gray of Hillsboro, IL; eight grandchildren, Jason (wife Aleah) Ginos, Nikki (husband Zach) Lipe, Alexandra Ginos, Shelby Gray, Dylan Gray, Natasha (husband Ted) Bailey, Troy (wife Amy) Smith, and Courtney (wife Laura) Smith; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gray was also preceded in death by an uncle, Orville Charles "Ted" Gray and an aunt, Dora Jayne.
Memorial may be given to St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL or Hillsboro Sports Association, Hillsboro, IL.
