Charles Edward Kirby, 73, of Hillsboro, IL passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 4:22 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Rev. Steve Revisky and Rev. Skyler Elmer will officiate. Burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL.
Mr. Kirby was born on August 10, 1943, in Litchfield, IL to the late Harold Liston and Elizabeth (Giffin) Kirby. He attended Litchfield Schools. As a young man he worked at Dude's Standard Station, Hillsboro, IL and then was a Maintenance Supervisor at the Newton Power Station for 26 years. He married Carole Claxon on October 1, 1960, at the Litchfield Methodist Church, and she survives in Hillsboro. Mr. Kirby was a deacon at the Christian Church of Litchfield; member of Hillsboro Moose Lodge #1377; loved to help with maintenance on the church; loved to fish and bowl, having had one perfect game; and loved to work for other people.
Mr. Kirby is also survived by one son, Charles Edward Kirby, Jr., Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Lacy (husband Jonathan) Spour, Effingham, IL; Caitlyn (husband Anthony) Briel, Hubert, NC and Charles Thomas Kirby, Murrieta, CA; five great grandchildren and one sister, Edna Wilson, Litchfield, IL.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirby was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harold Kirby, James Kirby and Donald Kirby.
