Allen Edward Marfell

Allen Edward Marfell, 82, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 5:55 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center, in Springfield, IL. A Celebration of Life Gathering  will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Event Center, Hillsboro, IL.  A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. with military rites to follow.  Rev. Michael Lawton, Pastor of United Methodist Church, Hillsboro, IL, will officiate.  Cremation rites were accorded.  Military rites by V.F.W. Post 1306 and American Legion Post 425 will be accorded.

Mr. Marfell was born on July 20, 1937, in Witt, IL to the late Edward and Retta (Sawyer) Marfell. Mr. Marfell was a 1955 graduate of Hillsboro High School. Mr. Marfell married Barbara Holmes on September 15, 1958, in Witt, IL. She survives in Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Marfell worked as an Executive Regional Supervisor at Miller Mutual Insurance. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then in the Air National Guard of Illilnois 183 Fighter Squad, in Springfield, IL and retired after 31 years. Mr. Marfell lived in Witt, IL; Godfrey, IL; Daphney, AL; and Hillsboro, IL throughout his lifetime. He loved golf, and was a member of the Hillsboro Country Club. He served on the Witt Volunteer Fire Department, Witt, IL.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Marfell is survived by his children, Julie Marfell-Konopka (Husband Steve) Lexington, KY; Bob Marfell (Wife Jeannie) Springfield, IL; Suzie (Marfell) Myers (Husband Craig) Beardstown, IL; Michael Marfell (Wife Kara) St. Louis, MO; as well as his sister, Mary Jo Tobias; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Cardinal Glennon or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital
