William Carl Harpole

William "Bill" Carl Harpole, 89, of Westlake Village, CA, formerly of Hillsboro, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017, in Westlake Village, CA.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL.  Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL will officiate.  A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Tilley's Bar and Grill at Hillsboro Country Club, Hillsboro, IL.  Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL.  Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Bill was born on May 11, 1928, in Evansville, IN, to the late Ralph and Bonibel (Harger) Harpole.  He was a graduate of Bosse High School, Evansville, IN and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education at Indiana State, Terre Haute, IN.  Bill married Betty Kanowsky on April 9, 1947, in Evansville, IN, and she survives in Westlake Village, CA.  He served in the United States Navy during World War II and Korean Conflict, serving on Commander in Chief Staff Pacific Fleet.  Bill worked in Real Estate and Insurance in the various cities lived in including Indianapolis, IN, Springfield IL, Washington, IL, Hillsboro, IL before moving to California to be near family in his final years.

Bill's passions and hobbies were fishing, hunting, golf and the St Louis Cardinals.  He was able to parlay his passion for the Cardinals into a "job" and many community service events.  He was instrumental in getting the first of many Hillsboro nights at Busch Stadium allowing many of the youth of Hillsboro to get on the field at Busch.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Sons of American Revolution, St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL and St. Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church, Thousand Oaks, CA.

Bill was known for his witty storytelling, his infectious positive attitude, generosity and compassion and his many jokes.  He will be missed by all.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by one son, Corey Harpole and his wife, Ingrid, Agoura Hills, CA; two grandchildren, Connor Harpole and Elisabeth Harpole; two sisters, Betty Hickey, Mt. Vernon, IN and Bonnie Stevens, and her husband Joe, Hamilton, OH, sister-in-law, JoAnn Miller, Evansville, IN and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one daughter, Leanne Harpole and one brother, Robert Harpole.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Diabetes Association or the Hillsboro Sports Association would be appreciated.
