Wayne was born in Waggoner, IL on November 4, 1934, to Hubert C. and Charlotte (Fogle) Jackson of Litchfield.  He married Marcella Oller on February 20, 1955 in Morrisonville, IL.  He served in the National Guard after graduating from Litchfield High School.  Wayne began cutting meat as a young man of 14, and was a member of the Meat Cutters Union.  He worked in several stores, including National, Kroger and County Market.  After working for a family owned store, Koester’s, in Belleville, he decided he wanted a store of his own.  He and Marcella purchased the former Short’s Market in Coffeen in 1973, which became Jackson’s Market, and loved managing the store with their 5 children from 1973-1990.  He was known for, and particularly proud of, the quality of meat he served.  Wayne was a member of East Fork Baptist Church, where he enjoyed teaching for several years.  He was also a member of the Coffeen Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years, rising to the rank of lieutenant.  He became a member of Rocky Ford Park where he spent most of his free time and enjoyed sharing his campsite and creating many happy memories with family, friends and church groups, making sure all had a good time.  Wayne was a member of the ASA and enjoyed umpiring for all ages.  He especially enjoyed the young kids and helping them learn the game.  He was a lifetime St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Marcella, of 62 years and children Beverly Howard of Hillsboro, Dennis (Kathy) Jackson of Nokomis, Tina (Jim) Leefers of Coffeen, Stan (Shari) Jackson of Walnut Hill, IL, Anita (Dennis) Pence of Litchfield, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sister Alice Popovich, sister-in-law, Joyce Jackson, both of Litchfield and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Alberta (in infancy) and Betty List, brothers Gene, Wes, Harold and Bill.

Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association, Alzheimer’s Association or East Fork Baptist Church.
