Reginald R. Roberts, 97, of Hillsboro, IL, formerly of Donnellson, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 8:55 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing & Rehab Center, Taylor Springs, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Burial will take place in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Coffeen, IL. Graveside military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post 1306 & American Legion Post 425. Rev. Wayne Pierce will officiate.
Mr. Roberts was born on March 8, 1920, in Coffeen, IL, to the late Julius Homer and Gertrude (Hendrix) Roberts. He was a 1938 graduate of Coffeen High School, Coffeen, IL and was a farmer and carpenter. Mr. Roberts lived in Coffeen, IL, Donnellson, IL and Hillsboro, IL during his lifetime. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He married Geneva O. Elam on May 23, 1942 in St. Charles, MO and she preceded him in death on June 29, 2008. Mr. Roberts was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Coffeen, IL and he loved horses and German Shepherd dogs and farm sales.
Mr. Roberts is survived by a daughter, Janet M. (husband Dale) Chaplin of Donnellson, IL; two grandchildren, Travis (wife Stacy) Chaplin of Montgomery, TX and Shelley (husband Neal) Blankenship of Witt, IL; and two great-grandchildren, Rhett Blankenship of Witt, IL and step-great-granddaughter, Savanah Deaton of Montgomery, TX.
Mr. Roberts was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Lewis and Margaret M. Spivey; two brothers, James Gail (Joe) Roberts and Earl T. Roberts; and two siblings died in infancy, sister, Jennie Ione Roberts and brother, Lillard Roberts.
Memorial may be given to Mt. Moriah Cemetery Maintenance Fund.
