Ralph Arnold Benning, 85, of West Lafayette, IN, passed away into Jesus' arms on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 5:15 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. Cremation rites were accorded. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at at 11:00 a.m. (EST) at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 510 East Lindberg Avenue, West Lafayette, Indiana. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Sunday, December 11, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. at Asbury Cemetery, Raymond, IL. Rev. Scott Busacker, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Harvel, IL will officiate. Military Rites will be held at graveside by American Legion of Raymond, IL. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL, is assisting the family.
Mr. Benning was born on May 1, 1931, in Montgomery County, IL, to the late Louis and Emma (Hudson) Benning. He was a 1949 graduate of Raymond High School, Raymond, IL and Chicago State Teacher's College. Mr. Benning was a high school teacher in Chicago, IL, Raymond, IL and Phoenix, AZ and worked with Prison Ministry. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954, TDY in England and Alaska, and was a member of the American Legion in Raymond, IL. Mr. Benning married Frances E. Schiesser on June 23, 1956, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Chicago, IL, and she preceded him in death on May 9, 2012.
Mr. Benning is survived by two children, Scott (wife Debbie) Benning, Phoenix, AZ and Diana Benning, West Lafayette, IN; eight grandchildren, Jessica Benning of Iowa, Alex Benning of Edwardsville, IL, Christopher Benning of Phoenix, AZ; Jamal Alsoffi of Colorado Springs, CO, Megan Alsoffi of Colorado Springs, CO, Lindsay White of Iowa, Collin Joshua Druck, of Iowa and Sophie Druck of Iowa; four great grandchildren, Kynlee Alsoffi and Maleek Alsoffi, Fox Hoang and Kit Hoang; and five siblings, Harold Benning, Dorothy Sloss and David Benning, all of Raymond, IL; Virginia Rinella, Carbondale, IL and Ivan Benning, Harvel, IL.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Benning was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Benning and Paul Benning, and one sister, Joyce Weihe.
