Mary Jo Kenney, 95, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 12:12 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Taylor Springs, IL. Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Hillsboro, IL, with Rev. Matt Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hillsboro.
Mrs. Kenney was born on July 14, 1920, in Litchfield, IL, to the late Chester Arthur and Blanche (Young) Ott. She was a 1939 graduate of Hillsboro High School and worked at Illinois Power Company, Dr. Vincent Parlante’s office and Heselov’s clothing store. Mary Jo was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was an active Circle member. For many years, she cared for her son John. She was a Cardinal fan and enjoyed playing bridge.
Mary Jo and Prentiss Kenney were married on November 20, 1941, in Hillsboro, and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1985. Their son John passed away on November 28, 1979. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann (husband Harrell) Howard; two grandsons: Matthew Bellaver, Yorktown, VA; Mark (wife Heather) Bellaver, Brandon, FL; four great grandchildren: Nathan, Nicholas, Rachel and Jack; and one sister, Nona Ware, Hillsboro, IL. Preceding her in death were five brothers: Kenneth Ott, Jack Ott, Larry Ott, Leroy “Buzz” Ott, James Ott, one sister, Eloise Carter and one son-in-law, Ramon Bellaver.
Memorials are suggested to CARE (Community Autism Resource Education), Hillsboro Public Library, or Oak Grove Cemetery Association, Hillsboro.
