Hasting Joseph Moroney

Hasting Joseph Moroney, 85, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1:22 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Hillsboro, IL.  Father Dan Willenborg, Pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis, IL will officiate.

Mr. Moroney was born on March 9, 1931, in Hillsboro, IL to the late William H. and Mabel (Durbin) Moroney.  He was a 1950 graduate of Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro, IL and worked as a Switchman for Norfolk Western Railroad.  Mr. Moroney lived in Hillsboro, IL until 1955 when he moved to Decatur, IL.  He married Emerald Jeannette Chumley on July 31, 1954, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL, and she preceded him on May 3, 2011.  Mr. Moroney was a volunteer for Catholic Charity, St. James Catholic Church and St. Mary's Hospital; loved to play pool, bowl, pitch horseshoes and antique wood restoration.

Mr. Moroney is survived by four children, Steven (wife Cathy) Moroney, Mt. Zion, IL; Alan (wife Teri) Moroney, Champaign, IL; Dan (wife Connie) Moroney, Macon, IL and Bob Moroney (significant other, Esther), Decatur, IL; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Moroney; three sisters, Ida Menghini, Lela Pesko and Kay (husband Harvey) Payne, all of Taylor Springs, IL.

Mr. Moroney was also preceded in death by three brothers, William Maroney, Jr., Kenneth Moroney, Thomas F. Maroney and one sister in infancy, Nina Moroney.
