Gerald "Jerry" Singleterry, 83, of Hillsboro, IL, formerly of Butler, IL, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 2:20 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at funeral home in Hillsboro, IL. Bruce Holcomb, of Hillsboro, IL, will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield, IL.
Mr. Singleterry was born, February 26, 1932 in Fairfield, IL, to the late Erma Singleterry. He moved to Butler, IL in 1946 and bought his farm in 1949, which he farmed until retirement. He was a 1950 graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, IL. He married Violet Mae Karrick on June 18, 1950, by Rev. Hugh Paton, in Butler, IL. She preceded him on September 19, 1988. Mr. Singleterry was a member of Butler Union Church in Butler, IL. He loved to collect toy tractors, antique tractors and high board wagons.
Mr. Singleterry is survived by three sons, Gerald Edward (wife Beth) Singleterry of Hillsboro, IL; Gary Eugene Singleterry of Hillsboro, IL and Gregory Evan (wife Sandy) Singleterry of Taylor Springs, IL; five grandchildren, Susan Lentz, Stefanie Singleterry, Kayra Osborn, Holly Singleterry & Adrian Murray and one sister, Jackie (husband Everett) Carroll of Hillsboro, IL. Along with his wife and mother he was preceded by his stepfather, Roy Davis.
