Edward W. Slightom Sr, age 92, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 3:30 a.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital, Hillsboro IL. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 12:00 noon at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro with Rev. Randy Sands, Pastor of Free Methodist Church, Hillsboro, officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery, Litchfield, IL, with Military Rites at graveside by V.F.W. Post #1306 and American Legion Post #425.
Mr. Slightom was born to the late Matthew and Grace (Smith) Slightom on July 17, 1923, at Litchfield IL. He had worked for Fuller Brothers at Hillsboro and was a union member. He was a member of Free Methodist Church, Hillsboro and had spent most of his lifetime in Hillsboro. Mr. Slightom served in the Navy Seabees during World War II.
His marriage to Marjorie Pruitt was in April, 1943 at Hillsboro and she survives at Hillsboro.IL. Also surviving are four children, Larry (wife Carolyn) Slightom, Hillsboro IL; Lena Beck, Punta Gorda FL; Lyndle (wife Margene) Slightom, Mattoon IL and Russell Slightom, Hillsboro IL; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding in death were one son, Edward William Slightom, Jr. in 1964; brothers, Ross Slightom, James Slightom and one sister, Marjorie Pruitt.
