Charles O. Herman, Jr., 96, of Coffeen, IL passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015, at 3:25 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing & Rehab Center in Taylor Springs, IL.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home, Hillsboro, IL.  Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL.  Father Dan Willenborg, Pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis, IL will officiate.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Coffeen, IL.  Military Rites will be held at graveside by V.F.W. Post #1306 and American Legion Post #425.

Mr. Herman was born on February 8, 1919, to the late Charles Otto & Theresa (Schwab) Herman.  He married Elizabeth "Betty" Lovein on August 19, 1948 in Macon, GA.  She survives in Coffeen, IL.  He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and attended Brown Business College for two years.  He served in the United States Army during World War II serving in Europe and was awarded a combat medal.  He lived in the Coffeen area most of his life.  He farmed and was an electrician.  He loved to garden, tend to his flowers, woodworking and working with stained glass.  He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Coffeen, IL/St. Agnes Catholic Church, Hillsboro, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Coffeen, IL; three children, Sharyn (husband Michael) Ellison, Savannah, GA; Charles "Chuck" (wife Cheryl) Herman, Coffeen, IL; and Robin (husband Lon) Lyons, Peoria, IL and six grandchildren, Jennifer (husband Mike) Kershaw, Coffeen, IL; Heather (husband Mark) Bellaver, Hillsboro, IL; Jared Lyons, St. Louis, MO; Tyler Lyons, Peoria, IL; Chad (wife Jenna) Edwards, Marine, IL; Drew (wife Beth) Edwards, Hillsboro, IL; nine great grandchildren and one brother, Wayne P. "Butch" (wife Georgia) Herman, Lindenhurst, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Benjamin Herman, Eugene Herman and Joseph Herman.

Memorials may be given to the Coffeen Volunteer Fire Department.
